The Quit
"Quitting does not come out of the clear blue sky. Every quitter enters into her quit armed with something to quit, a number of methods at her diposal, and a natural prediliction for how to proceed. Type of quit, technique, and the style of the quitter are the three components that go into every quit, from the monumental to the insignificant, the enviable to the absurd. The combination of these elements gives rise to the quit, and even though there are only three variables, no two quits are alike. You and your friend next door may both quit shovelling the walk in the wintertime, but you will never quit in exactly the same way. The spin on your technique will be subtly distinct; you will quit with similar but slightly different style. Details count. The minutiae are crucial."
