The story of Hamsi Bemzelian, a Pakistani cab driver who wins the N.Y.-state lottery and buys a cabbage farm upstate. Great opening animation sequence in which a parade of little cartoon cabbage heads pop up on screen, culminating with Hamsi's winking, turbaned visage. Hamsi's wife finally realizes her dreams of an affluent lifestyle (a revision of the "Green Acres" theme) with their lotto jackpot. In each episode, she works her petit-bourgeois concerns into a frenzy, pulling off sundry nuevo-riche hijinks that never fail to send the locals into uproar. Hamsi, like Eddie Albert, wants only to return to the earth and the life he remembers as a child on a dirt-poor farm outside of Karachi.
