Ooh la la. During World War I, our boys overseas took note that the French took great pleasure (greater pleasure than Americans?) in the giving and receiving of oral sex. "To French," "French job," and "French way" all became euphemisms for these essential ingredients of a perfect soixante-neuf. "French kiss" remained the popular term for that kissing-with-your-tongue stuff, but by the 1930s referred only to the mouth-to-mouth kind, which people had most likely been practicing long before World War I on both sides of the Atlantic.
