So, you say you've got Tante Françoise coming to stay at your house for a while. You want to make her feel at home, so you cook her only French food: a lavish breakfast of French toast, a dinner of French fries and a salad of French beans drenched in French dressing—maybe you even freshen her room with sprigs of French lavender. Well, you'll have one angry tante on your hands, because none of those things are of French origin. Here are the stories behind some of our most common "French" misnomers.
